While Congressman Walberg has been fighting in Washington for lower taxes and to encourage job creation, his opponent, Mark Schauer, has developed a strong track record of raising taxes on Michigan citizens. Mark Schauer was the deciding vote in favor of the largest tax increase in Michigan's history, but that is not enough. He stands ready and willing to raise our taxes again. Mark Schauer was the deciding vote for the largest tax increase in Michigan history:
* Roll call vote 397 on Oct. 1, 2007: $765 million tax increase passed 20-19 (Lt. Gov. broke tie) and Schauer voted yes. If Schauer voted "no", tax increase would not have passed.
* Roll call vote 398 on Oct. 1, 2007: $750 million tax increase passed 20-19 (Lt. Gov. broke tie) and Schauer voted yes. If Schauer voted "no", tax increase would not have passed.
* Combined, this tax increase was $1.515 billion, the largest in the history of Michigan.
Mark Schauer raised income taxes:
* Roll call vote 397 on Oct. 1, 2007: $765 million tax increase passed 20-19 (Lt. Gov. broke tie) and Schauer voted yes. If Schauer voted "no", tax increase would not have passed. Raised income tax by 11.5%, from 3.9% to 4.35%.
Mark Schauer raised small business taxes:
* Roll call vote 398 on Oct. 1, 2007: Imposed a 6 percent tax on a wide variety of services. Passed 20-19 (Lt. Gov. broke tie) and Schauer voted yes. If Schauer voted "no", tax increase would not have passed. Tax was later replaced with: Roll call vote 515 on Dec. 1, 2007: Imposed a 21.99 percent surcharge on businesses subject to the Michigan Business Tax to replace the sales tax on services Schauer was the deciding vote in favor of.
Mark Schauer wants to raise taxes again:
* Mark Schauer has a bill introduced, Senate Bill 605, that would increase the Michigan income tax to 4.6%.
* Mark Schauer has a bill introduced, Senate Bill 544, that would impose a 20-cents per gallon tax on water bottled in Michigan.

Love the new ad! I think it is a great way to show the people of the 7th district that Mark Schauer has been doing great harm to our Michigan economy by raise our taxes. Yet it doesn't attack Mark at a personal level or distort the truth by playing only little bits of Mark's message, like Schauer's ads have done!
